Retail sales in the euro zone fell by 0.3 percent on a monthly basis in May. The European statistics agency Eurostat reported this. On average, economists had expected an increase of 0.3 percent.

In April, retail sales in the euro area declined by a revised 0.1 percent. A minus of 0.4 percent was reported earlier for that month.

Retail sales across the European Union fell by 0.4 percent in May, after falling by 0.1 percent a month earlier.
