The Central Netherlands police arrested a 24-year-old man from Diemen on suspicion of phishing on Tuesday. It is estimated that he has caused more than 100,000 euros in damages.

The police tracked the man after a bank filed a complaint against him in June 2018. An investigation was then started and that led to the arrest of the man last Tuesday.

During the arrest various items were seized, including a laptop. The police informs that investigation is now in progress to determine the extent of the phishing attack.

It involves several banks, in both the Netherlands and Belgium. In addition, several telecom providers were targeted. The police can not yet mention names of the relevant authorities.

The police were not yet able to say exactly with which method the man carried out the phishing attacks. However, copies of banks’ websites have been found on his equipment. The police suspect that he wanted to make phishing sites.
