Economic activity in France increased in June. Market researcher Markit reported this on the basis of a preliminary estimate.

The purchasing manager index for French industry rose from 50.6 in May to 52 in June. Economists here generally expected 50.8. The index for the services sector went from 51.5 to 53.1. The consensus here was 51.6. The composite indicator with services and industry in France was 52.9 against 51.2 a month earlier. Here the average expectation was 51.3.

A position of the purchasing managers index of 50 or more points to growth, including shrinkage.

The index for German industry went to 45.4 from 44.3 in May. The consensus here was 44.6. The indicator for the services sector rose to 55.6 from 55.4 and the composite index for Germany was stable at 52.6.
