Pharmaceutical and specialty chemicals group Merck wants to take over the supplier of electronic materials Versum Materials. An offer was made for this in the US state of Arizona, according to Wednesday. Merck offers $ 48 per share in cash, which gives Versum an enterprise value of $ 5.9 billion. The Germans want immediate start with a book review and negotiations to reach a concrete agreement with Versum. Versum had announced at the end of last month that it wanted to merge Entegris into a new company with a value of 9 billion dollars. Shareholders of Versum would then receive 47.5 percent of the shares in the new company and the owners of Entegris the rest. The share of Versum went up sharply in the US pre-trade after Merck’s offer.
