The 100 largest companies in the hospitality industry have achieved a record turnover last year. That is the result of the dry and warm summer in 2018. Catering establishments on the coast or with a terrace in particular benefited from sunny weather. This is reported by trade magazine Misset Horeca. The hundred largest hotel and catering companies raised more than 8 billion euros last year. That was a growth of around 7 percent compared to a year earlier. Just like in all years, hamburger giant McDonald’s has remained the largest catering company in the Netherlands since the start of the ranking in 2003. Van der Valk Hotels was number two. The hospitality companies in the top 100 together employ 4000 branches and more than 100,000 people. Entrepreneurs in the hospitality industry are finding it increasingly difficult to find suitable staff, Misset reports on the basis of a survey among the top 100. Around 30 percent of directors believe that this is putting a brake on the growth of their company.
