Life 50 Cent and Janet Jackson go to Saudi Arabia Posted on July 17, 2019 2 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Rapper 50 Cent and Janet Jackson have been added to the line-up of the controversial concert that takes place in Saudi Arabia on Thursday. The organization announced this on Wednesday. Earlier Nicki Minaj announced that she would not participate in the festival. With this step she wants to make it clear that she does not agree with the lack of women’s and LGBT rights and freedom of expression in the country. Nicki would perform in Jeddah on July 18. The Human Rights Foundation called on the festival participants to abandon the concert. In Saudi Arabia, women have far fewer rights by law than men. There are separate restaurants and schools for men and women. Women have been allowed to learn how to drive in the country for a few years. The law also requires men who have sex with men to be sentenced to death. Among others One Direction singer Liam Payne will be performing at the music festival. The Dutch DJ Tiësto has also performed several times in Jeddah in recent years, despite calls from human rights organizations not to do so because of the bad situation for women and LGBTs. The Saudi crown prince is also under fire for the murder and sawing of the critical journalist Jamal Kashoggi in October 2018.
