HBO-program Chernobyl won the Emmy for best mini series on Sunday evening in Los Angeles. The Chernobyl series defeated Escape At Dannemora, Fosse / Verdon, Sharp Objects and When The See Us.

Writer of the series Craig Mazin, who received an award for the script for the show earlier in the evening, stated in his speech that he hopes that Chernobyl reminds viewers of “the importance of truth and the danger of the lie ”

Although Chernobyl won three Emmies on Sunday – in addition to the best mini-series and the writing work also won the best directing in a mini-series – the acting prizes in the mini-series were distributed over the other short-term shows. Jharrel Jerome won the award for best actor in When They See Us, Michelle Williams won the award for best actress for her role in Fosse / Verdon. With the supporting roles in mini series, the Emmys went to Ben Whishaw for A Very English Schandal and Patricia Arquette for The Act.
