Life Duncan Laurence has a chance to win Edison with Arcade clip By weekster Posted on December 4, 2019 3 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Duncan Laurence can again win prizes next year with his song Arcade. This time it’s not about the music, but the clip of the record. The song festival winner has a chance to win the Edison Pop in the video category. Bizzey (Drup) and Saman Amini (Allow me) are also nominated for the oldest music prize in the Netherlands. “Arcade is about fragility” Duncan’s clip, in which he is literally exposed with the buttocks, is according to the jury a strong combination of “simple image” with the music and the lyrics of the song. “Arcade is about fragility. The fact that the singer is shown naked in the video reinforces that message. Every high note of the song comes to you because you can hardly concentrate on anything else than the music and Duncan in the water,” the jury report about Arcade. The clips from Drup and Allow me are especially praised for the reality of the videos. “Everything is real. The props that appear in the clip are completely correct and have been carefully selected,” the jury writes for example about Drup, a collaboration between Bizzey, Kraantje Pappie, Jonna Fraser and Ramiks. According to the jury, the clip of Let me admit the current relationships within the Netherlands well. “The video shows that the Netherlands is still at war within its own borders. The message of the video and track is very strong: as a colored person / immigrant, life is very difficult in the Netherlands.” This year Zwart Licht ft. Ray Fuego with their clip of Zwarte Hollanders. Other nominees were Donnie with Snelle Planga and Within Temptation ft. Jacoby Shaddix with their clip of The Reckoning. The Edisons will be presented in Amsterdam on 10 February. The nominees in the other categories will be announced later.
