Life Ed Sheeran record boss leaves after blackface riot Posted on October 18, 2019 2 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Atlantic Records boss Ben Cook has resigned after seven years. Cook, who had Ed Sheeran under his wing among others, left after a fuss about the fact that he went to a dress up party years ago as a member of Run DMC. “I made a terrible mistake” Cook says he understands that it has been perceived by some as discriminatory that as a white man he was dressed as one of the dark rappers. “Although it was my intention to honor a musical hero, I understand that my appearance was offensive and I made a terrible mistake,” he said in a statement to British media. Last year the rumors about his dressing up came to light and because of the persistent criticism and the realization that he went wrong, Cook decided to quit. “I am devastated that my mistake has upset people and called into question my belief in diversity, equality and inclusiveness – values that I have been committed to throughout my career. I have learned a lot from the incident and will remain fully committed to these values. “
