Life Elton John’s mother did not approve her son’s marriage Posted on October 8, 2019 1 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Elton John’s mother could not be enjoyed during his wedding day in 2005. In his autobiography Me, which will be released later this month, according to The Daily Mirror, the singer writes that Sheila made loudly disapproving comments about the wedding location during the ceremony. The mother of the singer is also said to have left immediately after she had signed as a witness for the marriage. Sheila, who died in 2017 at the age of 92, was one of the few guests at the 2005 ceremony in which Elton and his partner David Furnish entered into a registered partnership. The two wanted to share that part of the festivities with a small group of friends and family, after which a larger party followed. In 2014 they turned their partnership into a marriage. Elton writes in his memoirs that he later understood that his mother had tried to stop the ceremonies. According to him, it was not because of homophobia; Sheila would have been particularly jealous that he had found happiness with someone and was therefore less dependent on her.
