During the opening weekend, the DC film with Joaquin Phoenix in the title role achieved a turnover of 93.5 million dollars (85 million euros). This makes the film the best-earning opening ever in October. The old record, 73 million euros, was in the hands of Venom since last year. The film shows the mental collapse of the painted character. It is Batman’s archenemy in various films, television programs and comics. Joker received both rave and destructive criticism and is called controversial because of the way ‘evil’ is portrayed. Also around the release of the film was often referred to a shooting in a cinema in the American Aurora in 2012, in which twelve people died. At the time there were rumors that the perpetrator had dressed up as The Joker. That was later contradicted by the prosecutor in the case against this James Holmes.
