According to the BBC, the band wants to avoid air travel because this would contribute too much to climate change. “As musicians we have emitted a lot of CO2 with our way of life” Singer Robert Del Naja struggles with his former travel behavior, where he flew a lot to perform all over the world. “As musicians we have emitted a lot of CO2 with our way of life. But as a community we have also lived so long in an economy that runs on fossil fuels, so we had little choice,” said the singer at BBC Radio 4. “The challenge is now to make fewer personal sacrifices, and demand systematic change. ” Massive Attack also donated data from their journeys over a four-year period to the University of Manchester to measure the environmental footprint of the music industry. In addition, Massive Attack spent a lot of time with environmental activists from Extinction Rebellion, and even played music during one of their demonstrations.
