Life Michelle Obama stands up for Ellen DeGeneres Posted on December 12, 2019 2 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Ellen DeGeneres (61) came under fire this fall because of her friendship with George W. Bush (73). She now receives support from former First Lady Michelle Obama (55), who is also friends with the former president. “We do not disagree about love and compassion” Obama was interviewed on Tuesday by Today Show presenter Jenna Bush Hager, daughter of George W. In the conversation the criticism of DeGeneres was discussed. “I went to funerals, highs and lows with your father. We shared stories about our children and parents. Our values are the same,” said the former First Lady about her relationship with the Republican. “We do not agree on policy, but we are not divided on humanity. We do not disagree on love and compassion. That applies to most people, but we lose ourselves too often in our fear of everything that is different.” In October DeGeneres and Bush were filmed during a social gathering they had at a football game. On social media, the presenter received the criticism that she thereby let go of her liberal values. She responded to this in her talk show. “We seem to have forgotten that it’s okay that we all think differently,” says DeGeneres. She referred to the daily closing of her program, in which she encourages people to be kind to each other. “When I say: be kind to each other, I do not only mean to people who think the same as you, I mean be kind to everyone.”
