Life Paul McCartney writes his first musical Posted on July 18, 2019 2 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Sir Paul McCartney has written a lot in his long career. Films, poetry, children’s books and more than 100 hits. Now the former Beatle has a new challenge at the age of 77: writing his first musical. The BBC reports that. McCartney is editing director Frank Capra’s classic It’s A Wonderful Life. It is the story of a man who is about to commit suicide, but is saved by his guardian angel. McCartney was only four years old when the movie was released in 1946, but he calls it “a story we can all recognize ourselves in.” The musical is scheduled for the end of 2020, says producer Bill Kenwright. Paul McCartney works with Lee Hall, who previously wrote Billy Elliot and recently Rocketman, the film about pop star Elton John. Hall writes the script and examines the songs together with McCartney. To give the story a new life on stage is already a great privilege, but to do it with Paul McCartney is the highest attainable, “Hall exulted.” Paul’s intellect, emotional honesty and melodic genius give a completely new layer to classic story. It feels like there is an angel on my shoulder “.
