The The Sopranos actress accuses the fallen film producer of raping her in 1994. Harvey Weinstein is on trial in January for five cases of sexual abuse. Anabella’s case is time-barred, but the prosecutors want to show her story to show that the former producer has a history of allegations of abuse. Weinstein’s lawyers had objected to this, but a judge has now decided that she can testify. The judge also partially rejected an announced defense testimony. The legal team at Harvey Weinstein wanted to call in an expert who has often testified about unreliable memories in abuse cases. Among other things, she would refer to ‘voluntary unwanted sex’, which is interpreted in court documents as ‘sex that is not wanted, but which the person nevertheless agrees to’. According to Variety, the judge ruled that this expert may testify about the functioning of human memory in general, but not specifically about abuse-related cases. In addition to the charges he must face in this case, dozens of women have accused Harvey Weinstein of abuse ranging from inappropriate behavior to rape.
