Spain maintains curfews in the most popular resort municipalities

1 min read

The night-time curfew remains in force in 19 municipalities in the tourist region of north-east Spain. In the 148 other places for which the authorities had requested an extension, the curfew will be abolished from this Thursday, as it is no longer justified on health grounds.

In mid-July, the court approved the Catalan regional government’s proposal to introduce a night-time curfew from 1 am to 6 am in Barcelona and more than 150 Catalan municipalities, including popular seaside resorts such as Salou and Sitges. The measure was extended several times.

By mid-July, Catalonia had the highest number of coronavirus infections of all Spanish regions, with the Delta variant infecting mostly in their twenties. The night-time ban had been preceded by other measures, including the limitation of meetings to 10 persons.
