Life ‘Special soccer’ boat to lead Canal Parade in Amsterdam Posted on July 22, 2019 2 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ During the Pride Amsterdam boat parade next week, a special football boat will sail along. The vessel is all about the play city of Amsterdam at the European Championship in 2020, the organization said on Monday. Amsterdam is one of the twelve cities where next year’s European football matches will be played. That is why various representatives of fans, volunteers and the organization of the play city sail on the special EURO 2020 boat. Alderman Simone Kukenheim (sports), journalists Barbara Barend and Hélène Hendriks and Stichting Roze Voetbal Fanclubs will be present on the boat. UEFA officials will also sail. The question is whether (active) football players will sail with it themselves. The organization says they have invited them. The boat is an initiative of the municipality of Amsterdam, KNVB, Johan Cruijff ArenA and Schiphol. In this way they ask attention for inclusiveness in football. “Whether you are a fan, football player or volunteer. Everyone must be able to be themselves, regardless of their orientation. This offers an opportunity to bring that message to the attention of a large and wide audience,” said Alderman Kukenheim. This year Pride Amsterdam takes place from Saturday 27 July to Sunday 4 August.
