Saoirse Kennedy Hill died last summer at the age of 22. Robert F. Kennedy’s granddaughter died under mysterious circumstances, but the coroner has now confirmed that it was an overdose.

The granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy died on 1 August. The Massachusetts police have since confirmed that the cause of Saoirse’s death was an overdose of drugs. The 22-year-old was found in the Kennedy family home in Hyannis Port and was immediately taken to the hospital. Shortly thereafter it was confirmed that she had died.

Saoirse is the daughter of Courtney Kennedy Hill and Paul Hill and the granddaughter of 91-year-old matriarch Ethel Kennedy. In the 22-year-old women, methadone, fluoxetine, norfluoxetine, diazepam, nordiazepam and alcohol were found by the police. In 2016 the Kennedy heiress told her story about depression in an essay. “Even though I was mostly happy as a child, I was burdened by periods of deep sorrow that felt like rocks on my chest,” explained Saoirse.
