Life The Lion King 2019 will be 29 minutes longer By WeeklyNews staff Posted on July 6, 2019 2 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ The playing time of The Lion King is known. Where there has been little evidence from the trailers so far, we can certainly claim that Jon Favreau’s film will be different from the 1994 animated film. But the playing time released today suggests something else. The Lion King is one of those animation films that is still well appreciated twenty-five years after its release. But the film about Simba gets a remake this month with CGI that makes things much more realistic. Although until now it was thought that it would be a complete retelling of the original, we now hear something completely different. Jon Favreau’s film will last 118 minutes. That is 29 minutes longer than the animation film from 1994 on which the director relies. Probably the story will be expanded considerably and we will also get some new original songs. The Lion King is a retelling of Hamlet, the story of Shakespeare. Central is the lion Simba, whose father is murdered by his evil uncle Scar. Simba gets the blame and flees, but years later he is recalled by childhood friend Nala to turn the tide.
