The trade union for Hollywood actors, SAG-AFTRA, honors Robert De Niro with a lifetime achievement award. The 76-year-old receives the prize during a ceremony in January.

“It is an honor to receive the award from SAG-AFTRA”

The oeuvre prize is awarded annually to an actor or actress who “takes the acting profession to a higher level”. The prize has been awarded since 1982, and in recent years Morgan Freeman, Lily Tomlin, Debbie Reynolds and Rita Moreno have received the lifetime achievement award.

SAG-AFTRA has around 160,000 members. Beverly Hills 90210 actress Gabrielle Carteris was recently re-elected as president of the union. In a statement about the oeuvre prize for Robert De Niro, she states: “From a young Vito Corleone to ‘raging bull’ Jake LaMotta and everyone’s favorite grandfather Ben Whittaker; De Niro continues to touch and surprise us.”

The actor himself says in a statement: “I have been a member of this association for more than fifty years. It is an honor to receive the award from SAG-AFTRA.”
