Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ An employee of the Turkish consulate and at least two others in the Iraqi city of Erbil were shot in a restaurant. The Turkish and Kurdish authorities report this. The three were eating when they were attacked by unknown gunmen. Kurdish-Iraqi security forces have deposited the area around the restaurant and are looking for the shooters. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the incident without commenting on what happened. Erbil is the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, the autonomous region of northern Iraq. The city is around 300 kilometers from the Turkish border. There have been tensions in the region for decades, especially between Turkey and the Kurdish PKK, which for a long time sought an independent Kurdish state in parts of Turkey and Iraq.
