Does a illegal movie download cost you 150 euros?

1 min read

After Dutch FilmWorks collected the IP addresses of illegal downloaders, the film distributor turned to the internet provider Ziggo with the request to link the data to names, addresses and residences (name and address).

A judge put a stop to that plan at the beginning of February, by stating that Dutch FilmWorks should better justify how it will use the name and address data. The company must also better substantiate how the settlement proposal of 150 euros has been built up.

You will hear Tim Kuik, the director of Stichting BREIN, and Joost Poort, researcher at the University of Amsterdam. Dutch FilmWorks could not respond at the time of the recording.
