The apps are, in some cases, downloaded millions of times. The apps came as a legitimate apps to take pictures and to edit them, but showed the users fraudulent ads in their web browsers. It was for users not clear where the ads came from. Also it was difficult to delete the apps. In addition investigators are suspecting that the photos that users uploaded been used, for example, in regard for fake profiles on social media. The rogue apps are for the most part downloaded by users in Asia.
