Hong Kong is planning a large-scale population test on the SARS v2 virus. A new, large-scale test programme will probably start on 1 september and should last two weeks. According to local media, people can volunteer via the internet, even if they have no symptoms.

The authorities in the metropolis are hoping to detect hidden virus cases by mass testing. There will be 150 test sites open from 8: 00 to 8: 00. A nose and throat smear is taken for residents who are tested. Minister of Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee expressed the hope that at least 5 million people would come forward for such an investigation.

The death toll from the outbreak stands at 75.
