The attack was carried out by the US Cyber Command, the digital arm of the US Army. He managed to take the internet from the troll factory offline at crucial moments during the congress elections in November last year. It is the notorious Internet Research Agency (IRA), a group related to the Kremlin that tries to sow divisions in American society through fake news and troll accounts. The IRA struck during the presidential election of 2016 and would have been of great influence on the election of Donald Trump. The operation is one of the retaliatory measures against Russia that the US has announced. The country already said it would be more active if Russia were to try to influence the American elections again.
