The French economy contracted slightly in the first quarter of 2021. This was shown on Friday by figures from Insee, the French statistical office. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2019, the last quarter that was not yet affected by the coronavirus crisis, the last quarter was down 4.7 percent. French consumer prices continued to rise in May. This was shown on Friday by provisional figures from the French statistical office. Prices rose 1.4 percent year-on-year, after a 1.2 percent increase in April. On a monthly basis, prices rose by 0.3 per cent in May, after a 0.1 per cent increase in April. French producer prices remained stable on a monthly basis in April. This was shown on Friday by provisional figures from the French statistical office. Prices rose year-on-year, by 6.4 percent, after an increase of 4.1 percent in March.
