The German car manufacturer Volkswagen largely ceases production in Europe due to the outbreak of the new corona virus. The health of the personnel is at stake, according to the works council, now that some German employees of the group have been found to be infected.

In many factories of Volkswagen, which also owns brands such as Audi, Skoda, Seat and Porsche, the last cars will roll off the assembly line on Friday. Daughter company Seat previously announced that it will temporarily shut down its factories in Spain.

Renault reports that it is also shutting down its factories in Spain. The French car manufacturer had previously stopped production in its own country. Industry peer PSA, which carries brands such as Peugeot, Citroen and Opel, has also closed its European factories for at least two weeks.
