Life Beyoncé and Jay-Z remain seated during national anthem Posted on February 3, 2020 1 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ During the performance of the American anthem during the Super Bowl JJ (50), Beyoncé (38) and their daughter Blue Ivy (8) remained seated. It’s amazing because it’s a habit of getting up. It is unclear whether they decided to stay in place in protest. The action was reminiscent of that of player Colin Kaepernick, who knelt in the 2016/2017 season when ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ was played. He did so in protest against racial inequality in the US. The gesture was soon taken over by other athletes and Hollywood stars, who shared photos on social media where they too knelt. It would be striking if Jay-Z and Beyoncé did not stand up in protest on Sunday, because the music producer, with its label Roc Nation, entered into a collaboration with the organizer of the American Football League, the NFL. Jay-Z is therefore an active part of Inspire Change, an initiative of the NFL and a group of players that supports organizations that work towards more social and racial equality in the US.
