Life Brad Pitt insists: “I write my own speeches” Posted on February 11, 2020 3 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Going on stage to receive a prize, Brad Pitt (56) has been doing that for decades. But lately he seems to have found his way in it. His speeches are particularly striking, because they are so clever, good and funny that it is almost suspicious. Brad still insists that he actually writes the lyrics himself. “I certainly write them myself” Brad recently made a furore with the speech he wrote for the presentation of the BAFTAs. He could not be present at the award ceremony himself, so he had it read by fellow actress Margot Robbie. Under the watchful eye of Prince William and Kate Middleton, among others, he made fun of the resignation of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which led to much hilarity and positive reactions. And that while Brad says he is not such a star in speeches: “Usually I am very careful because they make me nervous.” At the Oscars, Brad decided to take a different approach. “I thought: if I am going to do this, then I have to put more effort into it and feel comfortable,” says Brad. “It was important for me to be confident in doing something like that for a group of people. That may sound contradictory in my profession, but I don’t really like doing it. And that’s the result of that,” says he continues. The actor resolutely rejects the fact that he is assisted in his speeches by third parties. “I certainly write them myself,” he says about the speeches. “I have some very funny friends who help me get the laughers in the hand, but no, it really has to come from the heart.”
