Life Gerard Ekdom wants to beat the Macarena dance world record Posted on September 2, 2019 1 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ During the Celebrate The 90’s festival on Friday, September 6, Radio 10 DJ Gerard Ekdom, together with nearly 10,000 visitors, will attempt to break the world record of Macarena dancing. The radio station announced it on Monday morning. The attempt to break the record coincides with the kick-off of the voting period for the 90’s Top 110, a list of the biggest hits from the 90s that is broadcast on Radio 10. Gerard is looking forward to it. “I’m looking forward to dancing with almost 10,000 people on this 90’s stunner. I hope it works!” The song Macarena by Los del Rio was released in 1993 and is still a huge hit. “The Macarena is one of the best known dances ever”, Gerard knows. “As soon as I start the Macarena intro at a party, everyone starts to do the dance spontaneously.” With almost 10,000 expected visitors to the Celebrate The 90’s festival, it seems that Gerard can easily break the record. The current record stands at 2219 participants and was set in England.
