Life Igone de Jong leaves the National Ballet Posted on August 29, 2019 1 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Igone de Jongh says goodbye to Dutch National Ballet after 24 years. The 39-year-old first soloist leaves after a career she started there in 1996 in the lowest rank as a candidate. She was promoted to the highest rank of first soloist in 2003. She has almost all the main roles in the classical repertoire. In my 24th year I leave the Dutch National Ballet, the most beautiful company in the world. It feels strange, but at the same time it is also good to leave at the peak. I would like to be an independent dancer to give substance to the latter years of my career. The company’s director, Ted Brandsen, calls her “by far the best-known ballerina of her generation in our country”. And: “Her charisma, warm personality and appearance on stage have made her an absolute audience favorite. She is also a great example and source of inspiration for generations of young Dutch girls and boys who want to become or have become ballet dancers.”
