Life Jeremy Renner and Hellboy proposal in 2019 Posted on July 5, 2019 2 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Jeremy Renner may have been nominated twice for an Oscar for his acting in The Hurt Locker and The Town, most people probably know him earlier as Hawkeye in the MCU. Yet it didn’t matter much if Renner had scored a prominent role in an extremely well-known film: he was offered the role of no one but Hellboy by Guillermo Del Toro. It is difficult to imagine someone else instead of Ron Perlman as Hellboy, but Renner was the first choice. The actor told this in a recent interview: They had sent me the script, but when I read it, I found that I didn’t understand much about it … I couldn’t get a connection with it. I could not get around the character well and I did not know what to do. So I said no. Renner, however, thinks he has made the right choice: “I don’t regret it at all. I have often declined roles that I was afterwards glad not to have done. That was not the case with Hellboy. I’m not saying it’s a good or a bad movie, that’s not what it’s about. The role just didn’t suit me”. So in the end the role went to Perlman, who made two Hellboy films together with director Del Toro. Unfortunately, it never came to a third part, but since this year’s Hellboy rumours flopped considerably, it is being discussed again. Nevertheless, this chance seems thin, since Perlman is almost seventy years old.
