Maggie Smith: “Downton and Harry Potter were not my favorite”

Although she is very grateful for her popular roles in the Harry Potter film series and Downton Abbey, those were not the acting jobs that Maggie Smith got the most satisfaction from. The 84-year-old says this in an interview with the Evening Standard.

“I wanted to be on stage again”

The actress, who played Professor Minerva McGonagall in all seven Potter films, and Dowager Violet Crawley played the six seasons and the Downton Abbey film, said in the conversation that she never felt she was really acting during those projects. .

While playing those roles, she often looked forward to a return to the theater, her great love. “I wanted to be on stage again, because theater is my favorite medium, and it felt like I still had to finish something there. But nothing happened in those days.”

Still, her role in the Harry Potter films certainly had its good sides, Maggie explains in the interview. The ‘Dame’ has five grandchildren, and with that generation she scored quite a few points with her role as a teacher at magic school Hogwarts.
