In the upcoming edition of the British version of the magazine Women’s Health, Melanie Chisholm (45) opens a booklet about her struggle with depression. The Spice Girl confesses to thinking for a long time that she was going crazy, until her doctor found that she was suffering from depression. “That was the first day of my recovery for me,” said Mel.

“I have learned to accept that my mental health is constantly changing”

The 45-year-old singer tells frankly about the difficult period that she went through around the turn of the millennium. “I was in Los Angeles with my family at the time and started to feel worse and worse. I couldn’t get out of bed, ate a lot and couldn’t stop crying. I really thought I was going crazy and so I went back to England to visit my doctor. When he told me that I was depressed, a burden fell off my shoulders. I knew what was wrong and what could be done about it, that gave me hope. ”

“I have learned to accept that my mental health is constantly changing. Now I know what to do if I notice that I am going to feel less. Then I immediately stop drinking alcohol and make sure that I eat healthily, exercise and enough sleep, “Mel continues.

“Therapy has also been very important to me and it still is. I know that not everyone is in a luxury position to go into therapy, but I can recommend it to anyone. Usually I am reluctant to go, but it get a huge relief by talking about everything without being judged by your statements. “
