The Modern Family actress thanked him for that on Instagram. “Thank you not only for your kidney, but for everything else you do for me” “Two years ago my little brother gave me life back. Thank you not only for your kidney, but for everything you do for me too. I love you so much,” Sarah wrote to brother Ian in a family photo. The actress has been suffering from kidney dysplasia from an early age. In 2012 she received a donor kidney from her father, but her body eventually rejected the organ. In an interview with E! she told last year how difficult it is to receive a donor kidney from a family member. “If they give you a second chance at life and it goes wrong, it almost feels like it’s your fault. It isn’t, but it feels that way.” The actress says she had suicidal thoughts about the idea that her brother’s kidney transplant would end up just like her father’s.
