The city of Philadelphia has a street named after Patti LaBelle. A part of Broad Street in the singer’s hometown was renamed to Patti LaBelle Way during a ceremony on Tuesday.

“I never thought this would affect me like that”

The 75-year-old was present at the ceremony and said, according to channel CBS, that it was the best day of her life since the birth of her son in 1973. “I never thought this would affect me so much,” said the musician, who noted that her parents still walked the street that now bears her name. “Many people say ‘Patti, you should have received this some time ago’, but then I say:” No, it isn’t. It had to happen now, now it’s my time.”

Nicknamed The Godmother of Soul, Patti thanked her fans who came to the ceremony and treated them to a spontaneous performance, singing her hit Love, Need And Want You.
