Swiss consider broader EU sanctions against Iran over Amini’s death

58 second read

Switzerland is considering whether it will approve the European Union’s tougher sanctions against Iran following Tehran’s crackdown on protesters outraged over the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody.

The Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (WBF) said it had noted that the EU had extended sanctions to a further 11 people and four organizations in connection with Amini’s murder and the response to the demonstrations.

“The department is currently looking at further steps,” the WBF said in a statement to Reuters.
