The episode was not broadcast live for a change, but consisted of sketches pre-recorded. The actor, who was diagnosed with the coronavirus in March, gave the opening monologue from his own kitchen. “It’s a strange time to try to be funny,” said Tom Hanks. He also made it clear that it was not a live broadcast, but that everyone did their best to give the viewer the ‘Saturday Night Live feeling’. Tom also said that he and his wife Rita Wilson, who had also been diagnosed with the coronavirus, are doing well again. At the end of his monologue, Tom urged viewers to pay close attention to their health. “Stay safe. We’ll all get out of here.”
