Life Whaley Bridge is safe, the dam is secure Posted on August 8, 2019 1 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ The residents of the English village of Whaley Bridge may return home. Almost a week ago they had to leave the village, because the dam of the reservoir where the village is located threatened to collapse. The Toddbrook Reservoir was flooded by the heavy rainfall and the dam was damaged. Around 1500 inhabitants were evacuated. Sand and gravel were poured into the dam with helicopters and water was pumped out of the reservoir. The Environment Agency confirms that the measures for the expected amounts of rain must be sufficient for the time being. For long-term safety, the dam still needs to be repaired. The army and other agencies are assisting the residents on their return home, and the police are also staying in the area next week to assist the people.
