The United States and Russia would ‘in principle’ agree on a summit meeting between president Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin. This is reported by France, after French president Emmanuel Macron proposed the consultation.

French President Emmanuel Macron is said to have proposed the summit, after calling Russian president Vladimir Putin twice yesterday. On the same day, he also spoke by telephone with US president Joe Biden and Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelensky. All talks were, of course, about the rising tensions around Ukraine.

No exact date yet

The meeting between Biden and Putin will be prepared by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his Russian colleague Sergei Lavrov at their meeting on February 24.

The French government and the White House emphasize that the summit, for which no date has yet been chosen, will only take place if Russia does not invade Ukraine in the period before.
