On Sunday, the Swiss people voted by a large majority against the plan of the right-wing Swiss People’s party to restrict the free movement of persons with the European Union. 62% of the participants in the referendum voted against.

According to the plan, Switzerland could select which EU migrants are welcome. Opponents fear damage to the economy. Two thirds of the 2.1 million foreigners in Switzerland come from the EU, Iceland, Norway or Liechtenstein. Conversely, 450,000 Swiss live in the EU.

Additionally on Sunday the people agreed to buy new fighter planes.
