Science&Tech French Orange telecom malfunction led to several deaths Posted on June 4, 2021 1 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ In France a major failure at Orange telephone provider may have led to the death of several people. The emergency services were sometimes unavailable on Wednesday night. The malfunction is associated with three deaths. This includes a person with heart problems in the Morbihan area. The person couldn’t call 911 there. Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin stresses that it is not certain that the patient’s life could have been saved without the malfunction. The government says that call centers of the police, fire and ambulance services in the country suffered from the malfunction. “What is certain is that people told us that they tried to call several times and couldn’t get anyone on the line immediately”, the minister said. Orange has apologized and says the problem has been solved since midnight. An insider says that it is now clear that the malfunction was not the result of a hacking attack or just a glitch. On Thursday, the government called on the head of the telecom provider to answer.
