Science&Tech Mystery of excess mortality yet unsolved with two suspects drop out off the list Posted on May 1, 2023 2 min read Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ There has been excess mortality in Switzerland for several years. A research is being carried out into the reasons for excess mortality. The most recent data (until June 2022) from the Swiss Statistical Office (the BfS) now shows that although it has not been proven exactly what caused the excess mortality, it is in any case not due to Covid-19 vaccinations. The BfS recorded only two deaths in the first half of 2022 due to “undesirable side effects when using Covid 19 vaccines”. These are tragic, but cannot explain the additional mortality throughout Switzerland. Rolf Weitkunat from the BfS says: “it is practically impossible that the vaccination was a reason for the excess mortality.” The statisticians now assume that a large part of the excess mortality in the first half of 2022 can be explained by the Omikron wave. Which seems to have caused more victims than expected. This only explains the excess mortality in the first half of 2022 in Switzerland. The second half experienced an even higher excess mortality, but also heat waves and a flu epidemic. It is unknown when all the necessary data for the second half of 2022 will be published in Switzerland.
